About Janeth Urio

Janeth Alphonce Urio is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at Mwenge Catholic University where she teaches law courses. She is one among the pioneers of the programme of law at MWECAU. She is also an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania and Courts subordinate thereto, a member of Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) and East Africa Law Society (EALS). Dr. Janeth is a holder of PHD in Law, Master of Laws (LL.M), Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PGD-LP) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). She has published several books on various legal aspects such as Employment and Labour Relations in Tanzania, Probate and Administration of Estates Laws in Tanzania, The Law and Practice governing Affidavits, Human Rights Law in Tanzania with specific focus on the law of the child, Principles of Criminal Law and Principles of Business Law & Procurement. She has also published articles in reputable journals such as the Journal of African Law and Journal of Contemporary Legal Studies. Dr. Janeth began her legal career in 2011 when she was admitted into the Roll of Advocates of Mainland Tanzania. She joined MWECAU in 2013 at the time when it was a Constituent College of St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT). With over ten (10) years of experience in teaching and legal practice, Janeth has served as member of Examination Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, Child Protection and Safeguarding Committee and Implementation of Strategic Plan Committee. She has also worked as a Coordinator of Law Programmes at MWECAU, a member of the MWECAU Council Secretariat and Acting Corporate Counsel. Apart from performing the core activities as a lecturer, Dr. Janeth is interested in offering legal services in the areas of criminal law, probate and administration of estates/succession law, land law, human rights, child protection and safeguarding, labour law and family law.
